2022 MSPT Venetian Poker Bowl VI ends with Ron West claiming the title

3 min read

This past weekend, the 6th edition of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) finished up with the Poker Bowl taking center stage. The event had a $1,100 buy-in and just over 1,000 entered in the hopes of claiming the first-place finish. The tournament featured a $500,000 prize pool guarantee but with so many players taking part, it was boosted to well over $990,000! In the end it was Ron West who claimed the win, after defeating Johnnie Moreno after a two-hour heads-up round.

Details of the Event

The final day would see 118 players hit the felt with only 10 eliminations before those remaining were in the money. It wouldn’t take long to get to that point and then the final table would eventually be set. Interestingly enough, the final table would begin with a three-way all-in hand on the flop. The end result would be Anthony Danna eliminated in 9th place while West was able to take the chip lead off the hand.

Eventually, the field at The Venetian would be whittled down until only West and Moreno remained. Both were able to hit notable hands throughout the event to carry themselves to the end. Once the heads-up round began, the two players would have to battle it out for more than two hours before the chip lead would finally go to West.

On the final hand, Moreno was all-in with pocket deuces and West decided to call holding K-Q. A queen on the flop looked good for West and Moreno never received any cards to help. The hand went to West along with the tournament win.

West has done well in MSPT events, having made it to the final table in another tour event at The Venetian just a couple of months ago. He finished sixth in that event and took home just over $32,000 in prize money.
